In the moments before Jesus died on the cross, his final words were "it is finished." [John 19:30] What was finished was not just his life on earth, but the unfolding of God's plan of redemption and salvation for mankind. Christ's death was sacrificial. It paid the price for all
our sins. Just three days later, Jesus rose from the dead in a final victor over death the penalty of sin. God's plan of salvation has unfolded in the Scriptures from the time Adam and Eve sinned and brought sin into the world. Before Christ, people looked forward to the
Cross. Since then, we have looked back to the Cross. It is the central event in the history of God's revelation of salvation. God's ultimate goal was to restore man to himself after Adam and Eve had sinned. The plan of salvation has unfolded in various stages, but the basis of
salvation has always involved God reaching out to man and man responding in faith to God.
